Experience a lovely, lively eco-system.
As stewards of the lands surrounding our Inn, we’re committed to the protection and sustainability of the regional marine environment. For over four decades, we’ve restored the shoreline using nature’s blueprint to re-establish the diversity of native vegetation and wildlife. Our Eco-trail & gardens are examples of our focused dedication to safeguarding the Chesapeake Bay for future generations.
Eco-Trail
Your stay at the Inn is not complete without a walk along our two-mile Eco-trail. Take an early morning stroll before the hustle and bustle begins at the marina. Start at the Inn and meander through the gardens. Then, you’ll find yourself walking alongside boat slips, following a stone and dock pathway until you reach the west side beach where you will enjoy an endless waterfront horizon. After soaking in the views, you will embark on your journey back to the Inn completing the two-mile promenade.
Along the way, pause to read well-placed signage and learn what types of wildlife flock to the area – from Osprey and Blue Heron in the air to the Diamondback Terrapin swimming by the shoreline.
The Gardens
Escape into a world of your own and enjoy the peace of our beautiful gardens. The landscape has been thoughtfully designed to envelop you within a diverse array of flora that’s both beautiful to the eye and functional to the eco-system. Meandering pathways lead you through a tranquil setting complete with Bay breezes and blooming flowers.
The Marsh Pavillion, located in the center of the gardens, is surrounded by a seasonal Monarch butterfly habitat. Watch as they dance around the vegetation planted specifically to attract them to the gardens. Peak season is from June-August. Enjoy a picnic on the lush grounds with provisions from Ketch 22 or Chesapeake Market & Deli.
